a weekend away: buyer's market

silver tree art has successfully completed it's first trade show. from start to finish, three other members of the Richmond Etsy Street Team and myself gathered, prepared, and worked at the Philadelphia Buyer's Market of American Craft. what an amazing weekend. while the weekend at a buyer's market has a very different feel of retail shows/indie craft shows, it was still filled with good people, amazing art, and some really good food.

I'll likely be at the Bizarre Market for the 2nd Annual Johnny Z Fest which offers support to Art 180 in honor of Jonny Z. The Bizarre Market is this Saturday, August 8th from 12 - 5 on the 200 North block of Shields Avenue (right in front of Joe's Inn).

IndieFixx Summertime Galleria

summertime is truly upon us.  we're enjoying the warmth of the outdoors & bounty of the garden (ours & our organic farmer friends).  i'm also finding inspiration in so many amazing artists, illustrators, and crafters around me, from local to across the world.  over the summer, i want to share some of those inspirations as i encounter them, whether for the first time or a return to their creativity.  

i've mentioned indiefixx's great feed your soul downloadable art project.  now meet the indiefixx galleria, a juried gallery of indie goods that features a variety of folks.  i am happy to be among those juried for the summer galleria.  check out my wears as well as these other folks!  you'll certainly enjoy the creativity that's here, and maybe find something to make your own.  discounts apply, but you need to visit the listings to discover them.

a head's up - the feed your soul art project

jen at indiefixx asked me to contribute an original work of art around the theme "feed your soul" for download on the site.  she has some amazing artists' & illustrators' work available for free download on the site.  you'll want to go, run, jump, click on over.  i've been able to print many and they are hanging on a clip on my fridge, as i'm in the kitchen so often to enjoy these.  others will go on the inspiration wall, along with the great works by folks from the march pikapackage, which came in the mail a little over a week ago.  i'm in love with all this beautiful art!  

the best part about the work that i've printed & placed on the fridge is that i can rotate the art with great ease and enjoy so many artists at once!   there is new art posted every monday, so go take a look.  i love today's editions!  

oh, mine will be available sometime in july.  will give you a head's up when it's online.

you'll want to know the person i've called my best friend since i was 12.  she is simply amazing.  she has the most amazing smile and attitude, among other qualities.  her life is an inspiration as are her photographs.   because i trust her with my life, i could trust her to take some good photos of me wearing one of my handmade creations, which began with an amy butler pattern.  my friend took pictures of me while i was visiting her in MS and her work is amazing.  you'll see one of those pictures as my image here on the blog, as well as in her online gallery.  you'll see more of her work integrated in the pages here as well as on my site in the days to come.

frick frack foto is her business, started with her business partner and sweet friend.  one is frick, the other frack.  take a look at their talent.  so many of their images capture a dream-like quality, but are deeply rooted in the present.  each tells a story while retaining a timeless tale as well.  i believe the images speak of connection.  connection between those in the moment of telling the story and connection with the viewer, who is told the story as seen through frick frack foto's eyes.

Called to Create

Fidelia's Sisters, a fabulous online publication of the Young Clergy Women Project, is a great space in which I've often been invited to share.  In May's addition of Christ & Creativity, you can find an interview about my call to create.  YCW is an avenue of kindred spirits who challenge me to create, to preach, to teach, and to love in superior ways.  YCW is an exceptional group of young women in various calls that I am blessed to be a part of.  (Not language I use lightly.)

pikapackage march + what's in the works

  let me just tell you, i'm exited to be included in the march pikapackage!  it's a great introduction to some really good work of artists + illustrators.  you'll see a small assortment of my lino-printed cards + images included in the first post installment (#7).   i've been a fan of the pikapackage site + concept for quite some time.  as a part of participating, i'll receive my own package!  i'll share picts when it's here.  in the meantime, salivate!  these works are awesome!  amy will post more march participants to her blog in further installments. 

i've been working on a shop update with a new block print + printables (downloadable pdf files that you can print on your own) featuring block prints + hand drawn images.  mine will include cards of different sizes, gift tags, sayings, and invites.  these make me happy.  what a fun way of sharing.  you can use recycled paper to print them on, cardstock, or colored papers.  you're in charge.  i've had a little glitch in releasing these as my printer is on the fritz and i must photograph samples.  will need to move to a plan B for printing and push to an april release for printables in my shop. 

sarah of the small object came out with a rockin' invite (see how cool?) also has some AWESOME printables in her shop.  i've purchased 2 of hers and love them!    sarah's rockin' invite is available here as a free download.  how fun!  you know i love sarah's work, and her free downloads are a must for any crafty soul. i always LOVE her creativity as expressed through her blog + art.  happy birthday, sarah!

art karma, for a good cause

below is one of my four pieces in this year's art karma - a fab silent auction - and you can bid on this piece and many others (170 items!).  it was great to solicit items from some talented folks for the third year and to donate again also!  i've loved supporting art 180 in small ways over the years.  and it's never enough.  i mention all of this now to say that you can join in the fun.  if you can't make it to the party - and yes, it is a party - you can come to my show this saturday.  in order to keep the path toward the good i'm making a contribution of a percentages of THIS saturday's sales at Stir Crazy Cafe' to art 180.  just can't tell you how amazing they are.

Fidelia's Sisters, an online journal written by young clergywomen, features some of my work on Trees in the Christ & Creativity Section, up today.  You can see the unveiling of Kacey's Quilt, a work in progress, with a close up to the left. A portion of the print of my carving for Ana's design She Begets She Begets is there, too.  Enjoy!

Good Press

Hello, fine friends. I am honored to be recognized in a recent online article. Check it out here. Some sweet artist friends are mentioned as well. How great!

It seems to be the week for recognition. My "On Women, children and poverty" blockprint found here is featured in a Women's Health Awareness Art Exhibit downtown at the James Center. It is printed on high quality paper used for printing and watercoloring and sits atop layers of paper. I laughed about receiving an Honorable Mention at the awards ceremony. It was sweet and an honor. He he. The inner critic wants to say "no doing" but I'm happy to put that voice to rest for a while...for it always comes back.


Today I say, woo hoo. Thanks to all of you who lend your support in so many good ways. I appreciate all you peeps.
