window of the soul: susan's sunflowers.

i was contracted by a friend of a friend to create a special painting for our shared friend: susan.  yes!  after discussing options, i saw the painting fairly quickly. 

this 24x24x2 inch canvas mixed media is a part of my "window of the soul" series.  

susan is pure light and life and love.  

she loves sunflowers.

she is a hospice chaplain giving so fully of herself. 

those of us who know her are given a gift. 

she is light and life and love. 

so each stroke needed to have just that: light and life and love. 

when my friend casey joined me in the studio a couple weeks ago with this piece waiting to be mailed, she caught her breath, touching her chest saying she could feel it there.  i knew that susan would feel the love.  the life.  the light.  i knew that she would know it was a gift for her.  the quote featured is a favorite of the friend of a friend who contracted with me.  i've grown to love it, too.  you do that when you spend weeks musing about such words.

these days: 100 in 100 is on!

100 in 100.  it's on. 100 square inches.  it was a thought, almost an inspired call.  i'm called to create.  i'm called to minister.  i'm called to share.  i made a comment about wanting to do 100 mixed media paintings in 100 days and the interest was instant.  i started the list of 100 calling it the 100 club.  some have chosen certain numbers to represent anniversaries or birthdays while others just want their piece, whatever the number it ends up being.  i'm creating each original work of art to be a color story of its own with vintage goodness layered between paint, oil pastels, pencil, and ink.

oh, my.  i'm already in love.

the first in the 100 club has requested a beautiful bit of wisdom "share joy relentlessly" with extra greens in the color story.  she may love this piece or another.

i find with this work that you'll know yours when you see it.  and i believe you will.  each of these will become a network of love and wisdom.  as you follow their creation here on the blog or on instagram ((@slsvinson)), you'll see what comes to life through color, texture, and word.

i am so very excited.  all this good work and energy is pouring from within.  there's so much bubbling out that i. must. share.  and this is where i feel called to share right. now.   with you...

you'll place your own story into the piece as you witness it, adding your own blessing/good energy/delight to the work itself.  you'll be breathing into these works your goodness.  can you imagine?  these will carry such goodness into homes, offices, or others spaces that aim to delight!

there's so much more to come!  i'll officially "begin" on july 1st, but i'm warming up before then with a few paintings.  these aren't all going to be created in the same day as they're started, though i want to aim to complete one each day.  there are so many layers that go into each piece they need time to rest.  ((much like daily bread.))

since not all of you could visit my show at stir crazy cafe', i wanted to share a few of the works that are currently available, as well as curate an online show here on revartmom.  for those who see something that creates a spark within and you want to have your very own work, please contact me.  i would love to create something from my heart to yours.  my hands are made to create.  i'm called to create.  as such, i need to share with you what i'm creating and what it means to me.  i call this series speaking in color.  i feel that we're created to appreciate so much in life.  these share my own gratitude and my seeking.  i love "words to live by" and they're here.

i am an artist and minister living here in richmond, va.  i am called to create: art, love, peace, space.  in this instillation i’ve created art using unwanted materials and gathered treasures. some materials have been lost and then found.  some are taken from collections of my grandmother’s, grandfather’s, or have been created by my hands.  

i love using words to live by hand cutting each without a pattern from books that were library discards.  

these have been created in my 2nd floor studio overlooking trees, sitting on the playground surrounded by playing children while watching my sweet boy, in the car on trips to see family, and in daydreams since july.
