self care truth no. 2.

holidays bring me home.

when working for yourself and loving what you do,
you tend to work a lot.  and all the time.
i love these days that bring life to an almost hault.
days that provide space for a new pace.
where the day is filled with freedom to choose the next pace.

so i dig in.

these days remind me of the daily pace i want to have for myself.  i give myself permission to rest.  to clean.  to gather with friends.  to share.  the freedom of spontaneity.  i love. it.  today's time in the garden was soul food.  sitting.  listening.  making good food.  sounds like most any other day, right?  it is.  though it's the permission to do exactly what i want in a given moment that excites me.  to sleep in past 9 ((when has that happenend?)).  to play cards with my boys after a late lunch of hummus, veg, and fruits.  oh, it's a good pace.  it's a good space.  i am thankful for these self care days to just be.  and then to move forward and share presence with friends gathered to be together.

what do the holidays give you that feeds your soul?

what's growing in your garden?

14 March 2012

in the garden: digging in.

my new dress from parsimony! before i got to digging in the dirt with my dirt digging attire, i spent time soaking in all the goodness of the blooms in the garden.

oh, my lenten rose trio!

then i changed and sat near the soil, pulling unwanted plants from the garden walk.  love my story plant: a hair plant i need to remember the proper name for.

happy to share some lamb's ear, peachy pink chrysanthamum, and greek oregano.
i'm looking for a few new story plants for the garden
if you local loves have something to trade or share.

15 February 2012

in the garden: the helleboros are in bloom!

story plants abound in my garden.  i love these so!

this purple helleboros or lenten rose was a gift from the gardener & owner
of the helleboros stand i purchsed all of these from years ago.

the gifted plant is the largest and strongest of them all.

and i adore the white.  you'll see more photos.
i love capturing images of these beautiful plans during their blooming cycle.

what story plants are in your garden?

31 July 2011

in the garden: signs of summer.

a sweet little harvest on my birthday.
these tomatoes have made some really good salsa & gaspacho!

a slice of the garden with boutiful greek oregano + giant rosemary!
((we'll be dividing this rosemary, offering rosemary for drying to anyone who'd like!))

sunflowers! ((taken by my sweet boy!))

((he takes another! his mother's son.))

and...one almost twice as tall as i!

the colors of my day. (from a previous day)

as i move through the day i'm often caught by a particular few colors that i see.  of course red is constantly around as it's my sweet boy's topmost favorite all time color and has been for years.  many of his clothes are red. so much he picks up or chooses is red.  i've loved red and turquoise since high school and share that favorite color combination with many, including the sweet rani who visited me this past weekend.  as i play catch up on images i've been uploading to the blog over the past couple of weeks, i wanted to share this new-yet-always-been-there storytelling with you.  the colors of my day.  often it's a question i'll use when leading art+spirit groups for younger to middle school aged children.  it's a question i love asking: what are the colors of your day?

here's my color story from a week or so ago:

new mother's day sandals.

bright red cherries.

the making of strawberry preserves.

strawberry preserves made.

soccer practice with a sweet friend
who inspired my mother's day sandal request.

in the garden: a bowl full.

recording these beautiful cherries from the cherry tree celebrtating my love's birth.
the harvest is closer to 40 and we're thrilled.

these are beautiful, seen even in the windy blurry picutres.

love!
