feast: festival of word, table, & image

Feast is a gathering in which we nurture our creative, caring, spiritual selves through our very presence. We will gather together at table to enjoy a beautifully prepared meal, feast through sermons and our voices in worship, and delight using our senses through liturgical art & the art gallery. Come, enjoy, and share the tastes of the day.
Come to the table.

You are welcome there.

life stories: in the garden.

there's so much goodness in our small plot of earth.
i love seeing the sedum multiplying year after year.
i love finding the earthworms in my son's hands, under his trowel.
i love, love the helloborus blooming a glorious display
(lenten rose in the top right) along the front of the house.

i love spaces and gardens that abound in other places.
a garden of beautiful colors and tones that we can delight in.
a garden of toys (barbarians and romans, i believe)
that my son has his dear heart set upon.
there are sacred gardens that we tend.
story gardens.
gardens that give our bodies and souls food for the  feast.

as i work in my own garden i am doing so
mindful of the space of this year's FEAST
if you love the spirituality of baking bread,
the space of good food and great conversations around table.
if you love feasting upon good, feisty women: come.
you are invited to attend, welcome at the table.

life stories: a birth to celebrate

my one-and-only-true-love (borrowed from a dear friend) has a birthday today. i celebrate his life: stories of the days before we met, sweet memories of courting & falling in love, and the days of young adulthood, fatherhood, and responsibility. we celebrate well. we celebrate together. and we'll celebrate surrounded by family at the richmond folk festival this year. we've attended every year and truly love what this time means for our family.

traditions are so relevant and creating rituals around birthdays and significant moments in our family gushes meaning & love. memories are made, along with pies and cakes.

we focus our attention as a family to this wonderful human being. may today bring moments of truth-telling, focused attention, and presence to you and yours.

calling artists

calling artists who use their art to feed their spirit and the spirits of others to feature work in an upcoming feast art gallery.  the feast festival on may 1st will have a "feast" themed art gallery in which liturgical works & works related to feast texts in scripture will be displayed.  If you have an image that relates to this event, please let me know!  i need to see an image or have a description and a piece of sampled work and the show will be juried during the event.  three prizes will be awarded.

if you would like to participate, do so!  email me at slsvinson [at] mac [dot] com with your submissions and/or questions.  we ask to receive entries and inquiries by april 10th and you'll be notified by april 17th.  if you want a list of possible scriptures, i have that as well.  one of my tree of life will be an entry in the show, to give you an idea.  we'll accept many art forms:  liturgical stoles, fine art, photography, related quilts or hangings, paraments, banners, etc.  We ask that it's handmade and original.

check out information related to the feast here!  Register today!

food for your mind, body, and spirit

last year we participated in a Community Supported Agriculture program with our friend-farmers darbi & adam.  their CSA was great!  the food, which i blogged about here from time-to-time, gave us such inspiration for good food throughout the 20 weeks.  this year we will be canning more to carry even more of the good tastes into the fall and winter.

you can view their site (which i am helping create) by visiting www.fertilecrescentfarm.com. they currently have space available for the 2009 growing season.  i'm spreading the word this week, because i'm getting excited for the beginning of that season in may!

if you aren't sure that you can use, can, or freeze the amount of food they describe per week, you can split your share with a friend or colleague.
fertile crescent farm is giving some of their seasonal food toward our Feast: Festival of Word, Table, and Image.  Another YCW member and I have organized this celebration of women's voices through sermon, food, and art to take place on Friday, May 1, 2009 in Richmond, VA.  Take a gander at the amazing list of women that will "feed" us during this day!  www.vbwim.org

We're gaining such support through sponsorships and excitement toward the day.  We have lots of space for the festival, so register today!  The first 60 who register will have an extra-special handmade "treat" in their participant bags.

You have a taste of why I'm so excited!  and a busy bee!
